This class is an elective intended for those that are interested in coaching at any level, from youth to professional. The class is also valuable for athletes that want to get a better understanding of a coach's perspective.
Over the course of the semester, students will work on Principles of Coaching which include: developing a coaching philosophy, determining coaching objectives, identifying their coaching style, and learning how to coach for character and diversity.
Students will also delve into Principles of Behavior and how to become and effective communicator, motivator and manager.
From there we will move to Principles of Teaching technical and tactical skills as well as the planning and teaching process.
Students will design and implement effective practice plans, understand risk management and take part in a variety of interactive scenarios that require an understanding of successful strategies and principles of coaching.
At the end of the course, students will have a basic understanding and knowledge of what it takes to be a successful coach at any level in any sport.
